Children with speech and language challenges and their families just want the ordinary things that everyone expects. They simply want a school where they feel safe, with staff that know how to teach them. A chance to make friends and to have a laugh with them. And parents just want the time to make a cup of tea and to sleep at night. Right now, too many children are missing out of these ordinary things. But this can change.
A new report from the Disabled Children’s Partnership and the Speech, Language and Communication Alliance shows just how transformative the right support could be – for our workforce, our economic growth, and our children. Focusing on children with speech and language challenges shows that we can spend less and get better outcomes for children and young people. What’s more, we could create an incredible £8 billion in economic benefits for the UK simply by providing faster access to support and earlier help. The Government’s forthcoming Schools White Paper is a real opportunity for change.
To realise these savings and change lives, our government must act now.
